Android Development Environment Setup

I. Hardware Requirements​

Compiling Android source code requires high hardware resources. Recommended configuration:

  • CPU: 8 cores or more (recommended 16 cores, supports AVX instruction set)
  • Memory: At least 16GB (recommended 32GB or more to avoid memory overflow during compilation)
  • Storage: At least 1TB SSD (source code + build artifacts take about 150GB+, SSD significantly improves compilation speed)

II. System Preparation and Dependency Installation​

  • Recommended system: Ubuntu 22.04 or higher

  • Install dependency libraries:

  • Install Java environment. Android 14 requires OpenJDK 17:

  • Ubuntu 22.04 comes with Python 3.10 by default. Ensure python command points to Python 3:

  • Set up CCACHE. CCACHE caches build artifacts, significantly reducing recompilation time:
